Become a Deepmare member!
This entire page is dedicated to the steps and questions you may have as you consider becoming a member of the Deepmare Comics webring. If you haven't already, please check our blog in case we answered your questions already! Now, lets chat about becoming a member of this webring.
Deepmare, as it says, is a comics webring for any comic author who works on fantasy, horror, adventure, queer, or gothic comics. Each genre is honored separately, but if your story fits more than those or even outside of those genres don't be discouraged from applying!
The Steps:
- Prepare your comic!
Unlike a publisher, we don't need you to formulate an entire pitchbook BUT there are a few things you'll need to do before submitting your application! Follow these steps to make sure your comic is ready for this ring;
- Write your summary. You should have a convincing summary of your comic ready to go. This will give us an idea of what your comic focuses on and how best to place you upon being accepted.
- Have AT LEAST one complete chapter available to be read. We'll be asking you to link your comic in the application process and you submitted chapters should have at least 10 pages. If you haven't started posting your comic, or there is nothing to read, we will put your application in a pending folder. If we revisit you, after notifying you of your pending status, and you've begun posting your comic then we will contact you to see if you're still interested in joining.
- Make your graphics! Deepmare only requires you to make one graphic as a member of the webring. As you can see on the main page, we have banners of each members comic. THAT is the only graphic you will have to create. Below are the dimensions for that banner;
- Working Size (3x the size of the site banners): 390px by 900px
- Exported Size: 130 px by 300 px (The exported size is the size we'll need for the site)
- Resolution: min: 144dpi max: 350dpi
- Banner Template: Here is a link to the template, for details visit our resource page!
- Have your comic on its own site. Comic hosts (i.e. Webtoon, Tapas, etc.) don't allow for the webrings code to be implemented so in order to join your comic should be on its own site. There are exceptions to this rule. If your comic is hosted using tumblr or comicfury, due to those platforms ability to successfully host code you can use those for your story. This does require you to have the bare minimum coding knowledge!
- Check for the enrollment window!
Deepmare Comics isn't always taking on new members and that's mainly due to how new we are. On the sidebar of the website we include a mini announcements board that houses our enrollment dates! Enrollment will stay open for a week before closing for review and acceptances.
- Submitting your application!
At this point, your comic should be prepared and your site ready to go! You'll click the 'Sign Up' button on the left, and that will take you to an application to fill out with all the information you prepared. You'll be responsible for saving a copy of your form submission, you'll have an option to email it to yourself after filling out the application. We DO NOT recommend inserting the code of this webring prior to acceptance.
- Time to wait!
After the enrollment period ends, Deepmare will take the next few weeks to review all the applicant submissions. This means our person behind the screen will go over each application and read each comic. Then we will take the time to email everyone with their results. If your comic was not accepted this round, please apply again in the next round of enrollment.Not everyone makes it the first time, and we want to encourage artists and authors to keep trying. If you're unsure of why, or need guidaince on how to improve for next time, check our resources page on ways to reach out!
- The results!
So you've been accepted and are now a member of Deepmare Comics; Congrats!! This is where you get an email from Deepmare with instructions on how to insert the webring code into your sites code! We've also recorded a short video showing you how to and where to include the code!
- Final Step!
Share the news with your comic making friends and family, the more you talk about Deepmare the further we'll go! A big part of webrings is word of mouth and organic sharing. Our only goal is to uplift comic makers and storytellers!
